Program Logical Control & Automation Engineer

We are seeking a skilled Program Logical Control & Automation Engineer to join our team and contribute to creating safer mobility for everyone.
In this role you will develop, integrate and maintain PLC and automation programmes for assembly machines and test systems to ensure reliable, safe and efficient series production. You will work across product and process development, commissioning and continuous improvement activities, ensuring compliance with technical and safety standards.
What will you do?

Develop and maintain PLC/HMI programmes for Siemens, Rockwell or equivalent platforms; ensure structured, documented and secure code with version control.

Integrate automation systems including drives, motion controllers, safety PLCs, sensors and industrial networks to meet functional and performance requirements.

Lead commissioning and FAT/SAT activities with cross‑functional stakeholders; perform on‑site troubleshooting and optimisation to achieve first‑time‑right results.

Implement functional safety requirements and safety‑related logic in accordance with relevant standards (e.g., ISO 13849, IEC 61508/62061); perform validation and safety checks.

Support machine build projects from specification through handover, providing programme deliverables, test plans and commissioning reports.

Drive continuous improvement of control strategies and software architectures to improve OEE, reduce downtime and enhance maintainability.

Provide technical expertise during product launches and ramp‑up phases to ensure automation readiness and stable production introduction.

Maintain technical documentation including source code repositories, electrical schematics, communication maps, PM plans and change records.

Collaborate with suppliers and internal teams (design, production, quality, maintenance) to select components, resolve issues and align delivery schedules.

Coach and share knowledge with technicians and engineers to build capability in PLC programming, commissioning and safe operation.
Key Responsibilities

Design, programme and test PLC and HMI solutions with robust version control and documentation practices.

Define and execute commissioning plans, test cases and acceptance criteria for machine and rig deliveries.

Analyse faults and perform root‑cause investigations; implement corrective and preventive actions.

Apply and verify electrical and functional safety requirements within control systems.

Monitor automation performance metrics (OEE, MTTR, MTBF) and support initiatives to improve equipment effectiveness.

Ensure traceability of software changes and maintain secure backups of code and configuration.

Liaise with external vendors for control panels, drives, motion and safety components to ensure compliance and timely delivery.
What you'll bring
-
A technical qualification in electrical engineering, automation, mechatronics or a related discipline (apprenticeship, HND, degree or equivalent experience).

Typically 3+ years’ experience in PLC programming and automation engineering within a production or machine‑build environment.

Hands‑on experience with PLC platforms (e.g., Siemens TIA Portal, Rockwell/Studio 5000 or similar), HMIs and industrial communication (Profinet, EtherNet/IP, Profibus, CAN, etc.).

Practical knowledge of drives, motion control, servo systems, pneumatics and safety circuits.

Experience in commissioning, troubleshooting and delivering software for machine builds to schedule.

Familiarity with functional safety standards and the ability to implement safety logic and validation.

Strong problem‑solving, communication and documentation skills; ability to work collaboratively across functions.

Fluent English (written and spoken); additional languages are advantageous depending on site needs.
